The Journal of a Paid GM: 1, Intro

Hello traveler and welcome to this new line of posts I’ve been considering. This is the journal of a paid GM. Or, that is, this is my journal of the process as I set out to try to make a few bucks here and there playing games that I love.

Play in my D&D game: Eberron: Demon Wastes Rising

If you’ve never heard of paid GMs (paid game masters), then you might be asking yourself, why would people pay a GM? If you don’t know what a game master is, then you can google it. That’s not supposed to be dismissive. It’s just not what this line of posts is for and there are lots of places where you can find out what a Game Master is if you don’t already know.

Want to play a Tabletop RPG with me? A total Self Promotion Plug

Yeah. I go by Nors as a Game Master and I had that illustration above commissioned. It’s a likeness, I do believe.

If you have always been interested in learning how to play a TTRPG, like the idea of being a Hobbit, or just want to try something you’ve never done before–I am running sessions of The One Ring 2e (the official Lord of The Rings tabletop roleplaying game) on StartPlaying.games.

You don’t have to have played a TTRPG before, you don’t need to have read the Lord of the Rings. You don’t even need to have watched the movies. All you need to do is show up with a positive attitude to learn something new. I’ll be there to guide you the whole way.

Here’s my pitch:

A letter from Bilbo Baggins! This isn’t something you can ignore. Others call him Cracked, but you know better. Bilbo has seen the world. He knows things others don’t. It’s not proper behavior for a Hobbit–going on adventures but you are young and can’t pass up an invitation to Bag End. You’re close now. Almost to that round green door at the end of the row.

The Conspiracy of The Red Book is an interconnected series of 5 adventures that puts players in the shoes of famous Hobbits between the years of The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings. Play as Paladin Took II, Lobelia Bracegirdle (to be Lobelia Sackville-Baggins), Rorimac Brandybuck, or others, as you join a conspiracy headed by nonother than Cracked Master Baggins (Bilbo Baggins), himself.

You don’t need to sign up for all of them. Just pick one or two if you’d like. Now, these are pay-to-play sessions. I put a ton of time and effort into preparing for my sessions, and so I have decided to go premium with my labor. Don’t get me wrong–this is a ton of fun.

For the first two early sign-ups, you can get 50% off. You’ll just need a microphone and a decent internet connection.
